Welcome to Rift, a post-apocalyptic werewolf roleplay set in Point Grey, on the University of British Columbia's campus. We play by liquid time and we're R-rated for the possibility of violence and language. Please have a look through the navigation links to learn more!
Oohhhkay, so, at a lot of my past RPs we've had a few 'mentors' who taught students something about their gift or power or what-have-you.
I think it'd be nice to have that here too. It'd provide an extra layer of relationships (with student-teacher stuff) and such. But we need to decide who teaches what.
Nine is intent upon teaching someone Destruction. They'd have to practice on like... bugs or something first. I'd be srsly happy if he had a student. He's a super good-friend once he comes out of his shell but it sometimes takes common-ground for that to happen.
I'm going to make a list of possible mentors and what they teach here. If one of your characters wants to be a mentor or a student pipe up and we'll add the students to the list beside their mentor or something.
LIST OF MENTORS Joseph - Telepathy Nine - Destruction

MyEYEBROWSare extraterrestrial caterpillars and they are slowly feeding on myBRAINS . . .
The way I figure is that Scott sort of takes care of the newbies. Joseph sort of acts like the 'elementary school teacher' for mental powers like telepathy, empathy, dead speech, mind crawling ect. because all of the basic defenses for mental powers would be the same. Physical powers would be more Scott's style. After they have a basic grasp on how to keep their gift from happening at random, they can start to focus on how to use them, which is where more advanced teachings would begin and where you would be paired up with a werewolf who has your gift.

That all makes sense to me I think some of the Gifts may be a bit too strange for someone who doesn't have that Gift to teach (example: Animal Communion, Mending, Venom, Shadowstepping?) Personally I'd be a bit wary of giving general instructions to a Destruction wolf too just because that one goes wrong and you're dead O_o Generally teaching someone how NOT to use it though would be helpful.
So yeah, mentors for students who know how to control it on a basic level and want to learn more. Will add Joseph as a Telepath. I'm tempted to put Fynn up for Modification because he's old and a new character of mine so it'd be fun to get him involved, but if someone else wants it badly enough I'll let them have it

I was wondering about this sort of thing. Scott's not really a teacher, more of a "learn what your gift is so you don't kill anybody with it" sort of thing. His own Gift is pretty special, each Crafter has their own element that they associate with, and even if we had other Crafters (which we don't), he wouldn't know how to tell them what it feels like unless they were metal Crafters.
Now, Scott DOES teach "Werewolf 101: The Crash Course." ....er. To be funny about it.
I meant to ask, did Nikola and Nine take said crash course, or no?

Assuming Scott was teaching it when they arrived, then likely yes, they did XD To expand on that, I think Nik was probably an awesome student because he learns hella fast, and Nine was like probably like, 'shit, I get enough of this at school' and was terrible at it XD

Hmmm. *taps chin* Iiiinteresting. Now, I assume that they didn't need to stay with him, because it's in their history that they were still living with their family, yadda yadda, etc and all that.

Zea is always available to teach people how to cope with ghosts, but she's got her own problems containing herself on that front, so she'll be more use in the future.
Still. If anybody needed a run-down of what to expect when dealing with ghosts, she can definitely give that.
As a Slayer who has had just... AGES to take control of something as feral as the urge to hunt and kill, Crest would probably be the most practical mentor for slayers and infectors. Because he's lived among people for so many years without killing entire army corps before.
It could work in his favour somehow. If he stopped being an asshat and brought it up.

I'll put Saph and Zea down as mentors for now (and they can help if a student comes up).
With the Callings, the immediate problem I see with that is people aren't going to come right out and say 'I have this Calling and am willing to help others deal with it/am willing to learn from someone else who has it.' It's taboo to talk about it. Crest's been around Point Grey long enough that it's well-known fact and because he doesn't seem to try and hide it, but most everyone else would sooner slit their wrists than tell a mentor-figure what their Calling is.
All my characters say 'my business, GTFO.' XD Especially Nik. He's like 'yeah right, I'm not telling anyone about my Achilles Heel.'
